Darlinghurst’s Duke Bistro introduces dining with a sense of humour and quirkiness one floor above The Flinders Hotel, a landmark Sydney location. British colonial style joins an all star food crew featuring Thomas Lim (ex-Tetsuya’s) and Mitch Orr (2010 Young Chef Of The Year). Expect seasonal menus, a left-of-centre approach to gastronomy, and most of all good times at this late-late-night dining experience.
Duke Bistro in Surry Hills is a standout in Sydney’s crowded eastern suburbs dining scene, becoming well known for its unconventional menu and the old world-Victorian inspired décor makes the hectic streets below feel miles away.
Twists on old standards served up have included Veal Short-Rib Pancakes with pulled pork, pancakes and accompaniments that wrap up Peking-duck style, and they’ve put their own spin on ceviche with the gin and tonic kingfish. Duke Bistro also brings a new definition of high tea to Sydney with late-night hot scones, accompanied by chicken liver parfait and apple jelly.
For groups of 10+, a set menu of shared plates allows you to try all the best of the inventive fare. Food is served all night and a look at their hours shows a nocturnal kitchen open to 12ish or later Tuesday through Saturday.
The relaxed atmosphere can suit a casual get-together for 6, or exclusive hire can be arranged for parties up to 45. The private dining room with a round-table for 12 is tucked away and perfect for occasions that require speeches or a toast. The room comes complete with an iPod dock so you can create a personalised dining experience with music to fit.
