Contemporary flavours, techniques and textures are the focus at Ormeggio at The Spit, with Alessandro and his highly experienced and talented team exploring current Northern Italian offerings. Ormeggio has been awarded a coveted Chef Hat in the SMH Good Food Guide, had two Glasses awarded to its unique wine list by Gourmet Traveller and is listed in Gourmet Traveller’s Top 100 Australian restaurants.
Chefs Alessandro Pavoni and Manager Fraser Guthrie are giving berth to excellent Italian cuisine on The Spit’s waterfront. Ormeggio, the Italian word for “mooring” or “berth,” on the d'Albora Marinas is renowned for its food and location.
From this glass-fronted restaurant, diners can watch the sun set over the harbour while feasting on antipasti or primi and secondi courses. Groups of 12+ have the choice of two or three-course reduced a la carte menus, and Ormeggio also boasts four and six-course degustation menus for those who want to truly indulge.
Alessandro’s acclaimed risotto is a must try, and arguably the highlight of the menu is the Spiedo alla Bresciana, a traditional Brescian spit roast, with duck, quail and two cuts of pork cooked for five hours with sage and butter, and served with polenta. (A minimum of 10 people – with 24 hours notice – is required!)
The restaurant is open and spacious and groups are easily accommodated with flexible table arrangements. If you’re looking for the ultimate waterfront dinner party, the semi-private balcony on the pier seats 45, or make the entire restaurant yours for the evening for a 100 person dinner party or 150 for a cocktail affair.
